The Solemnity of Easter and its season can be incredibly sweet, literally and figuratively. Lilies grace the sanctuary, jelly beans and other candies have been given and received, and symbols like the egg and the bunny remind us of fertility and new birth. In many regions, the land is greening and spring is commencing.
It has been a long, dark, cold, damp winter with not a lot of snow to celebrate. With the days growing longer, we can emerge to see creation come back to life. We need to see and experience the joy of the Resurrection to help us cope with the sadness of winters tragedies and violence.
Here in our parish we have the largest number ever of people in our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program. They are eager to join us in fullness of faith during the Easter Vigil. They are a dynamic group that, each week this fall and winter, have revealed the hope of new life in the church to Deacon Dave and myself. Our faith is alive and growing!
Let us embrace this new life and invite others to join us in celebration of Holy Week and Easter. Our schedule is on the back of this letter. Share it with neighbors. Make time for Confession at our Penance Services, mark your calendars and come to Holy Thursday, Good Friday, or even the Easter Vigil. Try something different.
God Bless all of you during these Holy Days and Easter Season. Each of you will be remembered in my prayers throughout the fifty days of Easter.
Joyous Easter Blessing,
Fr. Kevin & the Parish Staff
